Course overview and structure:

The business to business technical sales market is attracting fewer well-qualified people. This means that companies are competing to attract the right people from a much smaller possible selection. You need to ensure that you have a robust process that attracts and then selects the best possible individuals.

The objective of this course is to provide such a process; taking you from the initial step to define the type of person you require through to introducing your new recruit to the company. The course is divided into a series of lessons, each lesson covering a critical stage of the recruitment process.

When you have completed the following lessons, you will be able to:

Lesson 1 - Define Person:

  • understand and document the type of person you are seeking
  • assess the influences on the role and list the full requirements; both technical and behavioural
  • create a screening framework to assess applicants fit

Lesson two – Attract and screen CVs:

  • understand the merits of the main methods of sourcing candidates
  • select the most appropriate method for your recruitment project
  • manage the process of screening the people applying to the role and selecting which candidates to invite to interview

Lesson three - Prepare for interview:

  • work through a series of checklists to ensure the preparation for the interview sessions is conducted effectively
  • prepare a list of interview questions that will allow you to accurately appraise the candidates
  • structure each of the interviews to make effective use of the time available
  • create a rating system to ensure evaluations are consistent and fair

Lesson four – First interview:

  • design and structure this initial contact with a potential new recruit with the aim of ensuring that a good professional impression is given
  • understand how to use different interview technique and style to good effect
  • maintain control of the interview with effective questioning, listening and observation
  • ensure that sufficient accurate interview data is collected to allow a fair decision to be made

Lesson five - Second interview:

  • understand the purpose of a second interview
  • gain sufficient information to be able to make the right recruitment decision

Lesson six - complete process:

  • understand how to collate relevant information and analyse the recruitment process for both efficacy and effectiveness
  • understand how to, and why to, manage the period when your new employee leaves their current employer and starts a new career with you.

Duration: each lesson is designed to be between 15 to 20 minutes in length.

Worked examples: lessons supported by the following 3 market-specific examples:

Key accounts sales manager; covering the recruitment of a high-profile key account sales manager for a critical piece of business. The manager will join an existing site based service team during an important phase of the development of the sales account.

Process engineering technologist; in this example the company have recently lost a technical specialist to one of their competitors. They are now seeking a replacement who can run troubleshooting projects on customer sites, and also be involved in new product development.

Marketing Support Specialist; covering the recruitment of a new entry level member of marketing team. The position has created due to a recent increase in market share and subsequent sales.

The topics for the recruitment projects have been selected so that they might parallel projects you are currently working on. Also, each example is designed to demonstrate differing scenarios; how the influences impact on the recruitment process, and how to adapt the process to achieve the best results.

The worked examples are based on practical experience and have been chosen to take you from the first stage of the recruitment process through to preparing for the first interview to reinforce the key learning points.

The course’s administration is managed through a learner management system. The course is designed to display in a window 850 pixels by 688 pixels; ideal to fit nicely on a standard desk or lap top. Also, the narration is on WAV format which will require supporting audio software.
